Biography
Born in Busto Arsizio (Italia) in 1986, he began studying cello with Caterina dell’Agnello and continued his musical education under Maestro Silvio Righini at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan, graduating from the “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Milan in 2007. In 2004, he joined the Interregional Youth Orchestra (IRO) of Ochsenhausen (Germany). From 2007 to 2009, he was a member of the Italian Youth Orchestra, through which he had the opportunity to collaborate with conductors such as Gabriele Ferro, Jeffrey Tate, Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, and Gianandrea Noseda.
He attended masterclasses with Karine Georgian, Giulio Franzetti, Alfonso Kontarsky, Piernarciso Masi, Milos Mlejnik, Giovanni Gnocchi, and Enrico Bronzi. He studied Baroque cello in Gaetano Nasillo’s class, graduating with honors in June 2011. In 2010, he was awarded the top scholarship for cello in the Baroque Orchestra of the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan.
He is currently principal cellist of the “Verdi Barocca” orchestra and the Baroque orchestra “Arcantico,” directed by Cinzia Barbagelata. His concert activity has taken him to prestigious venues such as the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall, Palau de la Música Catalana, KKL Luzern, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, BOZAR Brussels, Auditorium of Milan, and the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
He has collaborated with ensembles including: Ensemble la Barocca (as principal cellist and soloist), Les Musiciens du Prince, La Risonanza, Zefiro, Academia Montis Regalis, Accademia del Santo Spirito, La Magnifica Comunità, Il Canto di Orfeo, Ghislieri Orchestra, Cremona Antiqua, La Lira di Orfeo, Les Nations, Accademia Hermans, and Accademia degli Astrusi. He has performed with artists such as Cecilia Bartoli, Gianluca Capuà, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Vivica Genaux, Anna Caterina Antonacci, Fabio Bonizzoni, Stefano Montanari, Ottavio Dantone, Roberta Invernizzi, and Sara Mingardo.
Nicola Brovelli has recorded for Concerto Classics, Brilliant, Dynamic, Sony, Tactus, Glossa, Arcana, and CPO.
