Maria Hinojosa Montenegro has established herself as one of the most outstanding lyrical talents of recent years, as evidenced by her intense activity at leading festivals and venues across Europe and the Americas, performing major roles from the Baroque, Classical, and Contemporary repertoires.

She began her vocal studies in her hometown of Sabadell with Mª Teresa Boix and earned her degree in Voice and Lied at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya with the highest honors, receiving a Distinction Award for her final project.

In 2007, she drew attention for her performance in El dúo de La Africana, directed by Xavier Albertí, during the season at the Teatre Lliure in Barcelona. This role earned her a nomination for Best Musical Actress and the Critics’ Award at that year’s Butaca Awards. In 2011, her work in Carta Blanca a Lluïsa Cunillé was again recognized with another Butaca Awards nomination in the same category.

She has sung at many of the world’s most prestigious opera houses and concert halls, including the Musikverein and Theater an der Wien, Arena di Verona, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Opera Philadelphia, Gran Teatre del Liceu, L’Auditori and Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Palau de la Música and Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Salle Gaveau and Auditorium of the Maison de la Radio in Paris, Teatro Real, Teatro de la Zarzuela, and Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Granada Festival, and the Operas of Lausanne, Montpellier, Vichy, and Frankfurt.

She collaborates with leading early music ensembles and orchestras, conducted by such renowned figures as Pablo Heras Casado, Gabriel Garrido, Giovanni Antonini, Enrico Onofri, Ottavio Dantone, Francesco Corti, Stefano Montanari, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Fabio Biondi, Erich Höbarth, Sir Neville Marriner, Ivor Bolton, Josep Pons, Paul Daniel, Francesc Prat, Leonardo García Alarcón, Eduardo López Banzo, and Martin Gester.

On stage, she has worked with Xavier Albertí, La Fura dels Baus, Els Comediants, Francisco Negrín, Robert Carsen, Kasper Holten, Lluís Pasqual, Lluïsa Cunillé, Rita Cosentino, Lluís de Tavira, Juliette Deschamps, and Alfred Kirchner.

Her discography includes highlights such as Gli amori d’Apollo e di Dafne by Cavalli conducted by Gabriel Garrido; De tant en tant la vida and Peter Phillips, an Englishman in Spanish Flanders with Cappella Mediterranea (Leonardo García Alarcón); Juditha Triumphans by Vivaldi conducted by Ottavio Dantone; and the Baroque zarzuelas La fontana del plaer by J. Castel, Clementina by L. Boccherini, and L’isola disabitata by G. Bonno—all conducted by Pablo Heras Casado and released by Harmonia Mundi. She also features on the DVD of Pergolesi’s opera La Salustia for ArtHausMusik, three CDs with the Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla under Enrico Onofri and Vanni Moretto, as well as numerous recordings for RNE, BBC Radio, Radio France, and ORF.

In addition, she has recorded works by contemporary Catalan composers Agustí Charles, Eduard Resina, and Francesc Martí.

Among her recent engagements are concerts with Cappella Mediterranea in France, the title role in L’emperadriu del Paral·lel at the TNC, the production La Caramba with Forma Antiqva in Santander and Dubai, the world premiere of Andròmeda encadenada by Agustí Charles at the Palau in Barcelona to great critical acclaim, and a double program with the Galician Symphony Orchestra featuring La serva padrona and the world premiere of A ombra de cristall by Fernando Buide.
