La Madrileña

Orchestra
Biography

La Madrileña is an orchestra specialising in historically informed performance of the Baroque and Classical periods. It is made up of internationally renowned musicians and performs exclusively on period instruments. Under the direction of José Antonio Montaño, the ensemble has established itself as one of Spain’s leading groups in the recovery, performance and dissemination of Europe’s musical heritage, with particular attention to the Spanish repertoire.

La Madrileña’s work is structured around projects that combine musicological research with performance practice, resulting in concerts, staged productions and highly significant recording projects. The orchestra performs both instrumental and vocal repertoires, including opera, zarzuela and sacred music, and has been responsible for modern premieres and world-first recordings, among them the recordings DIXERUNT (Sony Classical) and Requiem by José de Nebra (Pan Classics).

La Madrileña works closely with scholars and academic institutions, actively contributing to the editing, performance and dissemination of previously unpublished or rarely performed works. Its recording projects have been supported by major cultural institutions and have received an enthusiastic response from the international specialist press. With a clear educational and outreach-oriented mission, La Madrileña seeks to bring a repertoire of exceptional musical richness to today’s audiences, presented with historical rigour, artistic sensitivity and a distinctive sonic identity.
