Cuareto Iberia was founded in Madrid in 2018. Since its creation, the quartet has continued the string quartet tradition passed down by its teachers, while bringing a fresh perspective to the interpretation of the great works of the repertoire. From an early age, each member’s desire to delve deeper into the repertoire written for string quartet led them to come together and form this ensemble, which has become the ultimate expression of their artistic vision and allows them to create an exceptional musical atmosphere.

In June 2021, the quartet was awarded a place to study in the String Quartet Department at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg under the guidance of Univ. Prof. Cibrán Sierra (Quiroga Quartet).

The quartet has also taken part in masterclasses with Valentin Erben and Isabel Charisius (Alban Berg Quartet), Heime Müller (Artemis Quartet), Rainer Schmidt, Lukas Hagen and Veronika Hagen (Hagen Quartet), Paul Watkins (Emerson String Quartet), Kuss Quartet, Frank Reinecke and Stefan Fehlandt (Vogler Quartet), Simone Gramaglia (Cremona Quartet), Jonathan Brown and Abel Tomàs (Casals Quartet), Helena Poggio (Quiroga Quartet), Carole Petitdemange (Quatuor Ardeo), Leonhard Roczek (Minetti Quartet), Alasdair Tait (Belcea Quartet), and André J. Roy.

The quartet has performed at international festivals in cities including Salzburg, Würzburg, Weikersheim, Paris, Montréal, Venice, Milan and Lucca, as well as at numerous venues and festivals throughout Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Granada, Burgos, León and Santander.

Iberia Quartet is a member of several leading European string quartet organisations, including ECMA, Le Dimore del Quartetto and ProQuartet. It is also one of the 38 quartets selected to participate in the European MERITA project. Alongside its concert activity, the quartet is committed to music education, teaching and giving courses to young musicians and ensembles.

The quartet has received First Prize at the 11th Antón García Abril International Chamber Music Competition and at the 26th Josep Mirabent i Magrans Chamber Music Competition in Catalonia; Second Prize at the 19th Arnuero International Chamber Music Competition and at the 1st Ciutat d’Altea Chamber Music Competition; as well as an Honourable Mention at the Zukunftsklang Award 2022 in Stuttgart.

Since early 2022, Iberia Quartet has been the resident quartet at the Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid and a member of the Real Sociedad Menéndez Pelayo, founded in 1918. The quartet plays modern instruments made in Cremona by Pascal Hornung, Diego Taje and Martin Gabbani, as well as an 18th-century violin by an unknown maker from Mittenwald.

One of the quartet’s greatest strengths is its versatility in exploring music by composers from a wide range of periods and styles, as well as its ability to develop projects based on research and in-depth study of works by composers from different eras and musical traditions.
